only if your bow has an upgrade of the same type of element so you can only have 1 type of conjure work

Well thats no big deal I was just making sure it would work at all, but do you lose the ability to do +20% weapon damage customization if you choose an elemental upgrade?

Also I am curious as to whether bows have a minimum range in this game and/or what the other downsides of using bows in close combat are.

Customization and upgrades are different. You can have an elemental bow and still have it customized with +20% damage.

I don't recall there being a minimum range, but I think if the enemies get too close then your miss rate increased. Then again, if they are really that close I think you have more concerns than if your attacks will be weaker or not.
